Raveeswarapuram Siva Temple

Even though located right at the heart of
Kodungallur town, this temple, for reasons unknown, remains obscure for many.
Situated very close to the Municipal Library, it was in ruins till few years
back.
“I remember during my school days this area was
completely forested. My relatives who were staying close to this temple
used to take me there. There was that feel of antiqueness around. Now the
temple is renovated.” – recalls Abhi.
Yes. Renovated it is - However, unfortunately most
of these renovations doesn’t seem to follow the true traditions. The materials
used, the construction methods all are compromised stating various reasons.
At the end there is the “concretised” form of the temple - the serene and
mystic feel which is the real essence of any temple gets diluted in this entire
process.
“We find several temples getting renovated
nowadays and there are even more (new temples) sprouting around in our towns and villages. Also there is a growing trend where these temples come with a lot of
publicity stunts – Nothing less than treating Gods as
commodities” – feel Divs

Yet we were not completely disappointed at
Raveeswarapuram Siva Temple. Though renovated, this temple as such is very
simple. No one is probably aware that this is one among the 108 Siva Temples of
Pracheena Keralam. There are no big festivals here. Neither are there
any promotions of any kind. There is a
nice temple pond, an abandoned Siva Linga (not sure how it came there!) and
the Naga tree which all turned out to be the real feel rich factors for
us.

And then for the child inside us, the gyrating tone
of the coin as it rolls down the passage of the hundi before
thudding at its bottom was really touching one - confused what it is – try it yourself!
